Unit of Russia’s Inter RAO resumes power supplies to Moldova

MOSCOW, Jun 6 (PRIME) -- The Moldova GRES power plant of Russian power holding Inter RAO located in Moldova’s breakaway republic of Transdniester, has resumed supplies to Moldova and will account for 70% of the country’s power imports, a source familiar with the matter told PRIME and a representative of Inter RAO confirmed late on Monday.

The Moldova GRES suspended supplies to the country from April 1 after Ukraine’s DTEK Trading won a tender for power exports from April 1 through March 31, 2018.

But in February, the Ukrainian government introduced a state of emergency in the power industry after Ukrainian nationalists blocked deliveries of anthracite coal, the major source of power for thermal power plants of the country, from the Donetsk and Luhansk self-proclaimed republics.

A source told PRIME that the plant and Moldovan power company Energocom on June 4 signed a contract under which the plant will account for 70% of the country’s power imports, and started exports on Monday. An Inter RAO representative confirmed the information.
